Hear Justin Langer’s secret to success
“Public speaking is one of the greatest fears in life. I still get so nervous but, every time I go back to what I learned in my first public speaking course…It’s a very, very simple process, but right to this day I still do it every time I’m speaking – I make the point, I tell a story, I then re-establish or reiterate the point and then I move on to the next one.”
“The one thing that has replaced batting for me is public speaking, and the reason for that is; one, I get very prepared, very well prepared; second, I get very nervous; third, I get up on stage and I have my icebreaker which is like getting off the mark in sport. And then I perform … for whatever the time frame is, from 20 to 50 minutes, and then I get off the stage and it’s like the best adrenaline rush ever.”
“[It’s the] simple things, like the power of the pause, the power of body language, the power of the clarity of the words you use, the importance of storytelling and bringing subjects to life through storytelling.”
“[My] advice would be ‘be prepared, be prepared, be prepared, be prepared’. And the second thing I would say is, practise, practise, practise, practise, practise. In other words, take opportunities. Take up opportunities where you can because it will help you in so many facets of your life.”
